Display and Build
The Zopo ZP980 comes of as stunning in the looks department. It isn’t one to trifle with on build quality either. The front glass gives it a look of a Nexus device. The body is mainly plastic with Gorilla Glass 2 on the front. The build quality, thus, has not been compromised at all. The phone is definitely built to last. ZP980 comes with a very small footprint as well, further adding to the beauty of the device. It is just 8.5mm thick. It also has a very small bezel. The back of the smartphone has a textured matte finish, aiding to the grip of the phone. But the smartphone is let down slightly by its wait, at 154g, it isn’t the lightest out there.
Display is also something to boast on this phone. Featuring a SHARP sourced 5 inch Full HD(1920×1080) IPS LCD display with 16M colors, it is the best smartphone display on a smartphone at this price range. Not only is it good on paper, but it is amazing in real life as well. The display offers great viewing angles, amazing clarity and true-to-life colors. This display makes the Canvas HD’s amazing display look, well, bad!
Power
You would think, at the price range, the display would be all that is amazing about the phone. But the case is not so. The phone features 1GB of RAM and a 1.2GHz MediaTek 6589 Quad Core processor paired with the PowerVR SGX 544MP GPU. Performance isn’t disturbed by lags, nor by hangs. The phone runs buttery smooth. The benchmarks of the smartphone are also mind-blowing. During our time with the phone, we experienced no lags nor delays, even power hungry applications ran smooth.

Storage and OS
Zopo ZP980 isn’t plagued by depleting storage as the high-end smartphones are, thanks to Zopo releasing two different versions, a 16GB one and a 4GB version. Both the devices also feature MicroSD card expandability upto 64GB. The onboard storage on the 16GB version after OS space is about 12GB. it is also possible to install apps directly onto external storage. Thus there will not be any shortage of space.
Zopo ZP980 runs on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, the latest version of Android. All the Jelly Bean goodness is harnessed by the 5 inch display. The UI is also left untouched, users will get a fairly un-skinned, vanilla Android experience.
Camera
Zopo ZP980 is quite confusing in the camera experience, the box says that the device features a 13 megapixel primary camera and a 5 megapixel secondary camera. But in reality, the front facing camera can be set to a max resolution of 8mp. Although we aren’t complaining, we have to ask why Zopo would undermine the camera’s quality. The camera features 1080p video recording at 30fps. Although we would have loved a little bit more clarity and better lighting, the camera still holds true as the best in the class.
Battery
Zopo ZP980 comes with a 2000mAh battery, which would sound small when taking in to factor the 1080p display and Quad Core processor. But the phone held its head up with an amazing performance. In our battery test, which plays a 60 minute video with all connectivity options except data and 3G set off and display set to full brightness, the phone’s battery only dropped to 81% by the end of the video. This would mean that the phone wold last a full day on moderate to heavy usage. Although we would ask you to not to play too many games. As we found games to be quite a big weakness for the phone.
Verdict
The Zopo ZP980 is a great phone which provides great features for the price range.
